Safeguarding

"The arrangements for safeguarding are effective." Ofsted Nov 2022

"Leaders are tenacious about ensuring that the pupils get the support that they need. Leaders ensure that staff receive regular training so that their knowledge of safeguarding is up to date." Ofsted Nov 2022

At Staples Road Primary School, the safeguarding and wellbeing of every child in our care is our absolute priority and we expect every staff member, pupil, parent, carer, governor, visitor and third party professional to share this view.

We are committed to providing a safe and secure environment and promoting a climate where children and adults will feel confident about sharing any concerns which they may have about their own safety or the well-being of others.

We aim to safeguard and promote the welfare of children by:

  • protecting them from maltreatment
  • preventing impairment of children’s health or development
  • ensuring that children grow up in circumstances consistent with the provision of safe and effective care
  • taking action to enable all children to have the best outcomes.

We ensure that all staff read at least Part one of DfE guidance "Keeping Children Safe in Education" and that mechanisms are in place to assist staff to understand and discharge their role and responsibilities as set out in this document.

We have key policies to help keep our pupils safe when in school and we welcome parents to read these documents. The aim of these policies is to ensure that our school has effective measures in place to safeguard from the potential risk of harm and that the safety and wellbeing of the children are of the highest priority in all aspects of our school’s work.

Each term, the Headteacher meets with the Safeguarding Link Governor and the Health and Safety Link Governor to monitor that everything is in place to ensure the safety of our whole school community.

The safeguarding and protection of children is the responsibility of everyone at Staples Road.

We have the following designated leads:

Designated Safeguarding Leads: Nick Mallender and Claire Dawson

Deputy Designated Safeguarding Leads: Mark Johnson and Claire Stephenson

Designated Safeguarding Link Governor: Marwan Mikdadi

The Prevent Duty

The Prevent duty is outlined in the Counter-Terrorism and Security Act 2015 for specified authorities, including schools, to have due regard to the need to prevent people from being drawn into terrorism. The four responsibilities are to risk assess, work in partnership, train staff and have secure IT policies. Staples Road actively supports this agenda and all staff are aware of the possible threat of radicalisation to our children through training, induction and reading Keeping Children Safe in Education.
